The family history assignment consists of you investigating the religious affiliations (or lack thereof) of your family going back to at least your grandparents, if possible. (If it’s not, that’s fine.) If you can, include other relatives such as aunts, uncles, cousins etc. Write a 2-3 page essay reflecting on what you’ve learned. Things to consider asking family members: Why did/didn’t they join particular religions? What does their identity as a member of that religion mean to them? Have they ever joined a different religion or considered doing so? Things to consider when writing your essay: Did you find any patterns? Did anything surprise you? What has the role of religion (or the lack thereof) been in your family? How does your family’s religious history impact your worldview, if at all?

Family History
My family is very religious, thereby making our conduct to be driven by our religious beliefs. My parents acquired their religious views from my grandparents. My grandfather was born in an Islamic family, thus married a Muslim wife. For this reason, my grandparents obtained their Islamic faith from their parents. It was difficult for them to practice other religions because their relatives and the broader community were Muslims. Consequently, they ended up becoming Muslims to conform to the society’s expectations. Nonetheless, my grandparents claim that they are proud of their faith. For instance, my grandfather prides himself for practicing Islam because it is a religion of peace.
