This module concentrates on the history of administrative theory and organizational leadership/management. After reading Chapters 8 and 9, write an initial post in which you address the following:

You have recently been hired as the police chief in Brady City. The city council fired the former chief due to his inability to address the ongoing poor performance within the department and citizen complaints about police officer conduct. Outline a strategy that you would employ to change the culture of the police department and increase police officer accountability.

Respond to at least two of your peers by proposing a complementary motivational plan and a corrective action for their force. Use at least one administrative theory from Chapter 8 in your responses. Discuss how you would motivate the police officers to increase their performance standards and, using the information from Chapter 9, describe how you would hold them accountable.

Refer to the Discussion Rubric for directions on completing this discussion.

Response 1 – Larry Lamphere

One of the aspects that I liked about the post is the decision by the peer to involve the community. Involving the community would allow the police chief to understand the complaints that the members of the society have been making in regards to police conduct. Such forums would also play a critical role towards analyzing some of the possible solutions that could be adopted by the police department.
