Instructions: Making references to the authors read in Part 3 of your textbook, The American Indian Intellectual Tradition, namely McNickle, E Deloria, Peterson, Owl, Warrior, Thomas, and V Deloria answer the following questions:

During the years 1938-1957, according to McNickle, E Deloria, and Peterson, American Indians made significant progress in terms of their nation-building (McNickle), military service (Deloria), and political participation (Peterson). With this in mind, what is an important example of each one of these three developments, about which each author expresses pride? In turn, what is an example that each author points to as a major concern of theirs?

During the early years of the Indian Protest Movement, Owl, Warrior, and Thomas provide their readers a snapshot of the Indian community in 1962, 1964, and 1965. With respect to each writer, what is an example that is reflective of Owl being a Bureau of Indian Affairs superintendent, of Warrior being a student-activist, and of Thomas being an anthropologist?

(NB: When answering the above questions, it is important that you do not simply reference the same readings in each answer. Mix it up a bit.)

I’ve provided the required readings which are attached below as well as the complete instructions.

In particular, McNicklehighlights cases of an overhaul in the economic conditions of the tribe and improvements in their decision-making processes, to an extent previously not anticipated of the local tribes (273).
