Identify claims and evidence.

So, your next exercise is to summarize and paraphrase Peter Singer’s essay “Heavy Petting” in your own a two-page essay. The article is here: https://ilearn.laccd.edu$CANVAS_COURSE_REFERENCE$/modules/items/i32f36033e2812b6fdea097b4ab814f77

Especially, I want you to focus on structure and purpose. Identify claims and evidence. It helps to think of it as an annotated outline, something where you pretty much go paragraph-by-paragraph explaining what the paragraph is about, how it fits into the larger structure/argument, and maybe a bit about the types of evidence used.

But do NOT think of it like an outline:

I. Author says this
A. Author makes this point
1. Author uses this example

II. Author says this
A. Author makes this point
B. Author makes this point
1. Author uses this evidence
That is just one way to outline. In my mind, the best way to outline is the way that works for you, but in this case, rather than come up with your own argument, I want you to focus on the structure of the essay.

Therefore, writing in paragraphs is appropriate. And because it’s not an essay written by you, you don’t need to think of it like a five-paragraph essay. Please be sure to explain that these are Singer’s ideas. Write things like, “Singer next explains…”

You do not need to get fancy. You should try to detect, if possible, whether Singer applied some grouping or presented information according to related categories.

Between 500 and 700 words (2-3 pages), typed, double-spaced, standard font and all that MLA document design stuff.
