One of the articles that supports the Topic Overview/Background section of Chapter One of the dissertation is by Muhandiramge & Matthiesson (2021). This is a meta-analysis that provides an overview of the current status of telehealth and the lack of solid research on the cost-effectiveness of telehealth. They note that trials assessing telehealth are usually of poor quality and fall short of solid economic analysis. There are several logistical barriers noted in the studies, including lack of internet access for the rural population, absence of physical examinations, and privacy concerns. Recommendations identified in this study include research that supports development of improved access, education of medical students on the effective use of telehealth, and rigorous testing of the telehealth infrastructure. The goal of this dissertation will be exploring the telehealth infrastructure to identify possible improvements.

The title of my dissertation project is African American Females Lived Experiences on Advancement Opportunities in Higher Education and Their Self Efficacy in Rural South Mississippi: A Descriptive Study. First, I want to give an update on my research. This week I have found several supportive articles relating to my dissertation. I am looking to find the gap in my study during my research. The research gap is an unexplored area or under-explored area of research that has further scope for research. The research gap is essential because it allows that field to progress further with the help of new answers (“What is a research gap, and how do I find one?”, 2019). This information will help me find further information needed to advance my research.

Proverbs 19:2

New International Version

“Desire without knowledge is not good how much more will hasty feet miss the way!”

Proverbs 14:15

New International Version

“The simple believe anything, but the prudent give thought to their steps.”

In today’s world, we must understand that research without any direction is not understood or something is going to be missed. Conducting research allows a person to learn something new and challenge oneself in various ways. Research gives people the opportunity to see others’ viewpoints to take in and determine their problem-solving skills. Conducting research allows a person to challenge the mind to see if what they are studying will be what they are determined to learn or understand or if it will be the opposite of what was thought of.

Finding wisdom comes from God. We must seek the teachings and Spirit of God to fully understand wisdom. We have to take time to learn and understand what God is presenting to us and how to take it in. We are learning as we go about in life and having God as a guide and as the One that knows all and sees all. He would be the best mentor and leader in understanding how wisdom is obtained. Wisdom is also acquired from personal experience. One cannot speak on a subject or topic manner if they have not personally experienced it. We must be mindful of what and whom we get information from to acquire wisdom. All information is not wisdom that is passed down to others. Understanding and getting wisdom from God’s Word will give us all that we need to maintain. We need and should be obedient to God’s Word and His commandments.

Worldviews provide different beliefs regarding what humans can know and the way to know it, which as a result helps to shape the types of research questions to be asked, the research approach to be used, and the methods for data collection and analysis. There are different worldviews that inform the need for research. For example, the need to conduct research is informed by the Christian worldview in the Book of Proverbs 19:12 and Proverbs 14:15, which holds that “even zeal without knowledge is no good, and whoever hurries his footsteps misses the mark” and “a simple man believes every word, but the prudent man watches his steps” (Hendrickson Publishers, 2004), respectively. The statements from the Bible in the two quotes justify the need for humans to research to gain knowledge or ascertain the truth about an issue as opposed to taking everything as factual as presented by others. Every individual has their respective worldview, and the manner each person interprets evidence and life is influenced by that worldview. Today, there are two major worldviews, where one holds that the Bible presents trustworthy facts, including the Earth’s history, and another one that rejects the notion of supernatural interventions. However, there are other worldviews, although they are not major. According to Kim et al. (2012), the Christian worldview holds that the God of the Bible possesses all the wisdom (Colossians 2:2-3) and thus the best way to find wisdom is by reading the Bible. Therefore, Christians do research by reading the Bible to gain wisdom. For others with different worldviews like scientists, they conduct scientific research all in the quest of gaining knowledge or wisdom.
