What do we bring to the table?

What do we bring to the table?

Getting Started
Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms.1 Peter 4:10
God has bestowed on each of us special and unique gifts that we, as Christians, are called to use to glorify Him and serve others. Throughout the Bible, there are many passage passages that refer to these special and diverse gifts given to us by the Holy Spirit. For example, 1 Corinthians 12:4-6 states:

There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but the same God works all of them in all men.
When we use the special talents that God has given us to glorify Him, we are pleasing God. As Christians, we yearn to be and stay close to God; sometimes, it easy to take our gifts and talents for granted.

In Social Work, we are taught to look for and build on people’s strengths. We look for the unique and diverse strengths that our clients bring to the table, and we use them to help our clients help themselves. However, sometimes we forget to reflect on our own strengths. What do we bring to the table? Consider what special gifts you have received from God and how you can use them to glorify Him. How will these unique gifts and talents make you a better social worker?

Upon successful completion of this discussion, you will be able to:

Apply ethical, Christ-like attitudes, values, and worldview appropriate to mezzo social work practice. (PO 1)
