Cultural Case Scenario: Middle Eastern

The Middle Eastern culture is widely misunderstood by the Western society, one narrow view
of the culture being seen as an extremely conservative and somewhat anti-progressive
patriarchal society. This tunnel vision is an example of misguided bias based on the limited
knowledge of the culture. First and foremost, the culture is not just one overarching
stereotype that embodies one specific group of people, but an amalgamation of ideas and
knowledge stemming from many different communities spanning from North Africa all the
way to Central Asia. This structure of cultural diversity is reflective of the way the American
culture is made up of a variety of subcultures borrowed from different geographical
background and ethnicities from all corners of the world. Perhaps a large part of the
misconception regarding the Middle Eastern culture is that most of its subcultures, if not all
of them, are seen as synonymous with the Islamic religion and tradition.
