If a person from a culture or country with different classifications of sexuality and gender than the US travels to America, it would be most appropriate to ask the person which set of classifications they prefer. If they do not mind being labeled according to US gender/sexuality versus their country’s way of classifying, then it is appropriate as long as they said it is.
Just like if someone traveled to America from a country with different classifications of gender and sexuality, an American who traveled to a different country would definitely be expected to have a choice between the classifications they know and the classifications of the foreign country. If I were given the choice to be classified under American or foreign sexuality and gender categories, it would honestly completely depend on how women are treated/viewed in the country I visit. If the culture respects women more, I would not mind being classified as a woman in that country, but if the country I visited does not have respect for women/give them the same rights as men, I would most definitely want to stick with the American classifications of gender and sexuality.can you reply to this discussion please?
