Details: Please respond to a classmate cosmic question based on her discussion discussion post.

In adult patients aged 60 years and above diagnosed with stage zero of diabetic foot ulcer wound at Australia Hospital. How does apply appropriate wound management during the zero stage in diabetic foot ulcers can prevent the wound from exacerbating and avoidance of foot amputation, compared to those who do not apply appropriate diabetic foot ulcer wound management within six weeks of being diagnosed with stage zero of diabetic wound ulcer?

A: Define your target population and sample

The target population of this study is based on adult patients aged 60 years and above diagnosed with stage zero of diabetic foot ulcer wound at Australia Hospital. The sample size will be 50 adult patients aged 60 years and above with stage zero of diabetic foot ulcer wound at Australia Hospital within six weeks.

B:Discuss your sampling approach in terms of their nature, use, advantages, and disadvantages. e.g. you can choose convenience, or quota, or random or purposive etc.

Convenience sampling which requires the use of readily accessible persons as subjects for instance the first 50 adult patients aged 60 years and above with stage zero of diabetic foot ulcer wound at Australia Hospital within six weeks. In convenience sampling it is easier to get the samples because it involves the individuals appear to be most accessible which is an advantage of it. Therefore, convenience sampling will be implemented. on the other hand , the disadvantage of convenience sampling is that it cannot generate generalizable findings since the researcher will not have the probability of detecting if the sample is representative of the entire population.

C: Indicate the inclusion and exclusion criteria.

The inclusion criteria would involve adult patients aged 60 years and above diagnosed with stage zero of diabetic foot ulcer wound at Australia Hospital As for the exclusion criteria, the adult patients aged 60 years and above diagnosed with stage zero of diabetic foot ulcer wound probably will lead me to their responses probably be biased due to cultural differences, presence of comorbidity, alcohol abusers, and have been using illicit drugs (LoBiondo et al., 2018).

D: Discuss the factors that influenced determination of sample size.

The factors that influenced determination of sample size are the type of design, type of sample procedure, type of formula used for estimating optimum sample size, and the projected cost of using a particular sampling strategy. The sample size should be determined before the study is conducted. The larger the sample, the more representative of the population is likely to be (LoBiondo et al, 2018).

E: Discuss potential threats to internal and external validity as sources of sampling bias.

Potential threats to internal validity will be examination since it involves testing the participants with the same exam for more than once to establish if they respond to it; giving someone the same drug many times can cause the body not to react; hence results cannot be out ruled.

And Instrumentation is the impact of the actual testing instruments used in a study on how participants respond (Heen et al., 2014).

External validity which looks at the generalizability of the findings of one study would be affected by selection effects, reactive effects, and testing effects. However, threats to internal validity are generally easier to control than the external validity threats (LoBiondo et al., 2018). testing which could influence subjects’ responses the next time the test is completed, instrumentation which are changes in the measurement of the variables that may account for changes in the obtained measurements, mortality which is the loss of study for instance through relocation, fear, or death and selection bias which entails how the subjects were chosen (LoBiondo et al, 2018).

F. What is your cosmic Question (This is a question you ask your peers to respond to base on the chapter discussed in class this week i.e. Sampling Strategy).

Cosmic question: What are the effects of using purposive sampling to recruit participants to a sample study?
