Under the Topics for Writing on Shakespeare on p. 855, choose one of the first four questions as the topic for your paper (you may not write about #5 because we did not read the other play).

Regardless of which topic you choose, you must include detailed evidence from the text to support your points.

Remember that you must have a strong thesis and provide analysis, not simply summary, as you respond to the question you have chosen.

Shakespeare is renown for writing the most tragic love stories in his plays. Unlike most people, Shakespeare twists love in so many ways that it is no longer a fairy tale with a happy ending. In Othello, the theme of love is explored by incorporating jealously, hatred, lust, and malice to bring out a devastating tragedy (Shakespeare). It is important therefore to evaluate the interpretation of love by Shakespeare and his stand on matters pertaining to the heart.
