This week you will explore many types of diverse learners and the many ways to support them. As you learned in the reading this week, NAEYC is committed to providing equitable learning opportunities to all children. Additionally, all early childhood professionals have a professional obligation to promote equity. To prepare for discussion, be sure to review the Recommendations for Early Childhood Educators reading from this week which discusses four different areas that early childhood professionals should address to build an equitable community.

Please respond to the following:

Choose two recommendations from “Create a Caring, Equitable Community of Engaged Learners” and describe how these benefit diverse learners. Provide an example of how you might implement this in your own early learning environment to meet the needs of diverse learners.
Choose one recommendation from “Establish Reciprocal Relationships with Families” that you feel would be most challenging and explain why.
This discussion addresses the following unit learning outcomes:

Develop strategies to support the needs of diverse learners.
It also addresses the following Course Outcome:

CE401-3: Develop inclusive strategies for diverse learners in the early learning environment.

Remember that your goal for discussion is three-fold:

To participate actively throughout the entire week.
To contribute in a way that adds to the discussion and moves it forward in an original fashion.
To use the course content to inform your posts and responses.
Keep in mind that when you post, you should always reference items you cite—be sure to use APA format. Also, be sure to refer back to the rubric as often as you need to during the week. The class is all about sharing knowledge, so use discussions as a way of creating a community resource for yourself and your colleagues.
