The student thinks the Gibbons v. Ogden decision profoundly impacts the federal government’s growth and its authority to regulate the economy. His reasoning is because of the commerce clause and how Chief Justice Judge Marshall gave his verdict on the case of Gibbons V. Odgen. The writer thinks that Chief Justice Judge Marshall gave a clear definition of the term “commerce,” and that decision catapulted how Congress regulates federal trades in America (Longley, 2021).

The Supreme Court decision gave Congress the right to regulate all coastal and interstate trade, and this decision gave the government more control of domestic policy and states rights (Longley, 2021). A great example to exemplify the impact of Gibbons V. Ogden would be minimum wages laws or discrimination laws been violated in any business in any state. Under the Gibbons decision, Congress can impose fines and regulate government policy if the business owner buys and receives their products and supplies from other states using the interstate.

The student thinks the impact of Gibbon’s decision created more jobs in the federal government to enforce and regulate the federal laws. The economy will always be affected by the decision of Congress. Gibbons’s decision gave Congress the power to make sure all trades in America are abiding by the Constitution. Still, the Gibbons decision ensured all states are abiding by federal regulation when trading goods between state borders. Furthermore, the Gibbon decision gave Congress the power to regulate international trades and what countries can import into America. The overall impact of Gibbon’s decision is that Congress can regulate all trades through the Constitution Commerce Clause.
