Comparisons between the Middle Ages and the Renaissance

Social Life

During the renaissance period, social life was met with numerous passions for intellectual and cultural movements. People at the time enjoyed social gatherings and were depicted to interchange ideas and different forms of communication instead of the middle age, which is written as an epoch in European history with limited movements (Marinozzi 2).

Education

In terms of education, the renaissance period experienced between the 13th and 17th centuries had an upgraded form of primary education instead of the middle age period experienced from the early 5th century, which deployed crude forms of schooling (Marinozzi 2).

Literature

In terms of literature, it was based on religion during the middle age period and was written by hand. It was instead the renaissance period that was more secular and deploy printing press (Marinozzi 4).

Architecture

In the middle age, architecture was mainly influenced and impacted by religion, contrary to the renaissance period, which was influenced by Greek ideas and classic Greek (Marinozzi 7).

Art

In the middle age, art was characterized and featured by dimensional figures and figurines composed of gold. It was in contrast to the Renaissance, in which art was comprised secular themes, real people’s presence, and natural perspectives (Marinozzi 3).

Dance

In the renaissance period, country and curt dance were common. Court dances had everyone participating, while the country dance required trained individuals. It was opposed to the middle age dances, which only relied on the carol dance primarily practiced in the rural areas (Marinozzi 6).

Vocal Music

In the middle age, vocal music was depicted t change from monophonic to polyphonic while maintaining its plainchant trait. On the other hand, Renaissance vocal music was mainly composed of buoyant melodies and tunes (Marinozzi 9).

Instrumental Music

The renaissance part of the music was depicted as both vocal and instrumental, which comprised the use of musical instruments such as flutes and violins in their instrumental platform. On the other hand, in the middle ages, music was mainly vocal; however, the change to polyphonic form brought in instrumental aspects (Marinozzi 5).
