Ā MAIN DETAILS: For your final paper, you will be writing a paper on how race, class, and gender have affected your own childhood. This will be an analytic rather than descriptive paper. As such, you should think about how to use the readings and videos assigned in class to explain and analyze your own childhood. A good starting point may be Matthews (2007) who points out the plurality of childhoods and how sociologists are currently thinking about childhood. You may also want to refer back to any notes, quizzes, discussions as well as previous assignments to help you think through this final paper. You have been developing the skills needed for this paper throughout this course, so I expect higher levels of analysis, critique, summary, and writing for the final. For the final, you will need at least 5 paragraphs: an introductory paragraph, at least 3 supporting paragraphs, and a concluding paragraph. You should also have a central thesis, which is an argument or an idea you are presenting that is central to your entire paper, and this thesis should be the last sentence in your first paragraph. This thesis must be complex enough to provide a thought provoking paper with sharp analysis. It must also be specific enough to allow for a paper that does not seem āall over the placeā with paragraphs and ideas that are loosely connected. The supporting paragraphs must each have a distinct idea that supports your thesis.Ā
