Lesson 7

WORKING WITH FAMILIES IN THE EARLY CHILDHOOD PERIOD

Think for a moment of the people you communicate with at work on a typical day: families,
co-workers, people from other agencies or community organizations, your supervisor, other
agency leaders, and perhaps funders. As the chapter states, “the best communication takes
both skill and heart.” We all communicate in a variety of ways: through the words we speak
and write, listening, and gestures such as facial expressions and nonverbal body language.
