Read the assigned resources pertaining to this week’s topics. Introduction

Software-defined Networking (SDN) is an emerging network architecture that is cost-effective, manageable, dynamic, and adaptable thereby making it ideal for the dynamic nature of the contemporary applications. Specifically, SDN is a cloud computing architecture that entails the physical separation of the forwarding plane and the network control plane. With this, administrators can use the control plane to manage several devices. Recently, SDN gained momentum after its promise for centralized control relative to the distributed network architectures at affordable costs. Unlike the current network architectures where network operators manage the network devices individually, the SDN provides a simplified means through which multiple simple switches can be dynamically controlled via the single controller program.
