French Film Analysis
Learning Goal: I’m working on a writing question and need a sample draft to help me learn.
Write a 2-3 page paper explaining the philosophical significance of the film as a whole, or a specific scene or series of scenes (if those scenes are sufficiently rich for a 2-3 page paper). Your paper should not have a general or “fluffy” introductory paragraph. Instead, it should have a very short and specific intro paragraph that covers the key ideas that you will discuss in the paper. For example, you can start simply by saying “In this film [the filmmakers]…” It is key that your paper is not just a summary of the film! Instead, the paper should use bits of the film as evidence to support analysis of its philosophical significance. The paper must discuss both the content and form of the film, explaining how formal features of the film contribute to the philosophical significance of the work, and it must use a yellow highlighter like this to flag where formal features are mentioned (the whole section does not need to be highlighted; just enough to make it easy for the reader to find).
