WRITING ACTIVITY 7
Purpose: To plan for your Recommendation Report by creating an outline

Audience: Your instructor; yourself

Instructions

This activity is designed to help you begin planning your first draft of the Recommendation Report:

Review the Recommendation Report assignment sheet and Chapter 7 of Technical Communication, “Organizing Your Information.”
Compose an outline of your report. In addition to the required sections on the assignment sheet, include details under each section. Optional: Include information about the organizational patterns you plan to use somewhere in your outline. Organizational patterns are discussed in Chapter 7.
Our textbook does not go into detail about how to create an outline. Instead, can look to the Purdue Online Writing Lab (OWL) for help (in addition to me, Dr. Petts!). The following sections at this link may be helpful.

Outline Components // Purdue Writing Lab:

“Outline Components”
“How to Outline”
“Types of Outlines”
There is no set word requirement for this activity. However, the more details you can provide, the more I will be able to review and provide feedback.

Part 2 is a report on bankers

You are responsible for submitting two deliverables:

A letter of transmittal

The recommendation report itself The letter of transmittal is a memo that introduces your primary reader (the stakeholder or change maker) to the purpose and content of your report. You can read more about letters of transmittal on page 481, and you can see a sample letter of transmittal on pages 490-491. The recommendation report will include a title page, executive summary, and references page in APA format. The body of the report will include the following sections: introduction, research methods, results, conclusions, and recommendations. You may include a glossary and appendices at the end of the report if needed. You can find a sample recommendation report on pages 489-513 in the textbook. You may also find the writer’s checklist on pages 514-515 useful during the drafting and revision process.

Requirements The requirements for the recommendation report include the following:

Length: The body of the report (introduction, research methods, results, conclusions, and recommendations) should be at least 4 single-spaced pages.

The front matter (letter of transmittal, title page, an executive summary) and back matter (references and optional glossary and appendices) are not included in the 4-page length requirement.

 Uses APA format

 Includes visuals (such as charts, tables, images, and graphs) where appropriate. You can use visuals from existing sources as long as you cite them and include them on the References page.

4. Introduction

5. Research methods
