Evaluating Sources Skill-building Assignment

Instructions: Please type in answers to the questions in this assignment, then upload the assignment as a .doc, .docx, or .pdf to the correct dropbox in Blackboard (make sure it is saved as one of those file types, with the file extension in the filename since Blackboard won’t read it otherwise). I will apply the rubric (available at the end of the document, and on Blackboard) to your work. Remember that the grades in this class are binary: you have to have satisfactory scores in all areas to receive credit. If you have any unsatisfactory scores, you may resubmit up to twice in the two weeks after the initial assignment due date of October 23 at noon.

For this assignment, I would like you to produce a list of the ten sources in the folder “Sources” on Blackboard under Content, numbered from 1-10 in order from most (1) to least (10) useful for your source-based essay. For each, I would like you to include at least one paragraph explaining what made you rank that source in that position: what makes the source useful, what factors might make it less useful, etc. Factors you should consider include: age of the source, quality of the source (both its written quality and the venue in which it appears), type of source (primary/secondary, as well as popular/review/trade/scholarly), slant or bias of the source, usefulness of the source to your possible work, etc.

Category Satisfactory Unsatisfactory (see feedback comments for details for revision)
On Time Turned in by October 23 at 12pm Not turned in on time (must revise in the next 2 weeks if so)
Clarity It is easy to discern what you are saying. There are major difficulties with reading your sentences or your explanation.

Quality of Explanation It is clear why you ranked each source where you ranked it. It is unclear why you ranked sources where you did, or your explanations do not match your ranking.
Use of Criteria You use a good set of criteria for evaluating which sources are more important. The criteria you use are not the most useful, or you do not explain what criteria you use.
Length You provide a paragraph of explanation for each source, and include all sources. You are missing a source or do not provide an explanation for at least one source’s ranking.
