You are sitting in on your first weekly meeting at a new job. You are the least experienced associate in the meeting. A senior-level associate has been dominating the conversation, but you would like to interject to make a point that would be valuable to the discussion. What cues would the speaker use to maintain his or her role of speaker? What cues might you use to indicate you would like to assume the speaker’s turn? Describe how the process of turn-taking varies in informal and professional situations. That is, how would turn-taking differ at work from the family dinner table, a discussion of friends hanging out, or in a college classroom?
