This discussion will be the fourth graded close-reading assignment. Our reading for today is an excerpt from an academic article about decolonization and what that should mean to us when we consider the types of texts we’ve experienced and the discussions we’ve had this term. This assignment will be a little different from our previous close readings, though you should still be employing the techniques we’ve studied. In a way, this is both a reflection on what we’ve read and an evaluation of how we’ve done as a class. I think in some ways we’ve done some good work, but we’re (understandably) not perfect. In your opinion, how has this class contributed to the project of decolonization? What have we as a class, you as a student, and/or me as your instructor done well regarding decolonization and where could we improve?
Pick one text we’ve looked at this term. It could be a video, a poem, or a passage from the play, short stories, or novel we read. You should cite the piece/passage you’re using but not quote it in full. What is your response to this text now that we’ve nearly finished the class and especially in light of today’s reading? Is it different than your response when we first encountered it? How?
