Write a review of a recent (within the past two years) court decision (also referred to as the court’s “opinion”) by the State Supreme Court of the state in which you currently reside. (The state supreme courts usually publish all opinions on its website, so you can peruse those opinions to find one of interest to you.)

Prepare a summary of the decision/opinion. Be sure to include all the requirements set forth below:

Identify the case by parties (X vs. Y), the specific court (for example, Mississippi Supreme Court), date of the court decision, the case number, and the URL for a link to the case on the web.
A brief summary of the facts of the case — Do not include every detail, but describe the facts sufficiently to understand the context of the court’s ruling.
A summary of the opinion that sets out the ruling of the court and why. If the court overruled any prior decisions, explain the rule of law that was overruled and why.
A summary of any dissenting opinions — Most cases do not have dissenting opinions. However, if your selected case has any dissenting opinions, then include a summary of each dissenting opinion. Explain how and why the dissenting opinions differ from the majority opinion.
An evaluation of the stakeholders (people, entities, etc.) affected by the case — Your evaluation should include an explanation of how the stakeholders are impacted, advantages/disadvantages to the stakeholders, etc.
An assessment of the implications of the case — How will this decision affect the public going forward? What changes, if any, do you see necessary or probable as a result of this decision? Are there any complications, difficulties, unanswered issues, etc. as a result of the decision, and if so, how should those be addressed?
