Textbook Reflection
For this week’s Textbook Reflection, I would like for you to choose an organization that you know very well. You will perform an Organization Theory assessment of that organization using the concepts from the chapter.
In your 5-6 page analysis (using the same submission guidelines for all of the other Textbook Reflections this term), describe the following:
1. Briefly describe this organization in terms of the span of control, centralization, formalization, and organic/mechanistic structure.
2. Identify the primary form(s) of departmentalization (e.g., function, product, customer, geographic, process, etc.) in the organization. If there are hybrid or combinations of forms, describe and discuss.
3. Briefly describe the organization as it relates to its external environment, size, technology, and strategy.
4. Reflect upon and conclude your reflection with an analysis of the appropriateness of the organization’s actual structure and departmentalization as it relates to its environment, size, technology, and strategy. In other words, does the organization appear to be properly structured and designed? Or can you envision changes to the organization’s structure that would work better and make it more effective?
