What are TED Talks?

TED is an acronym for Technology, Entertainment, and Design. It began in 1984 as a nonprofit

devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading.

 

Assignment:

Choose one of the talks available at www.ted.com.  Answer the questions listed below and complete the following assignment. You should pick a talk that discusses an idea, topic or experience you find highlyinteresting as you will be completing later assignments based on this talk.

 

Summary of the Talk.

In your summary, when you quote or paraphrase the presenter, you mustprovide a proper in-text citation using APA style, as seen in the example below. If you use adirect quotation, make sure to include quotation marks.

Example 1: During the presentation, Palmer (2013) stated that invention and pre-writing are areasof rhetoric that need more attention.

Example 2: Companies can monitor employees’ every keystroke without legal penalty, but they

may have to combat low morale as a result (Palmer, 2013).

 

Organize your summary in the following manner:

  3. The presenter is (include any pertinent biographical information, such as the speaker’s qualifications or expertise. You may have to do a quick Google search to find interesting tidbits about your speaker(s).
  4. Please write a paragraph or two explaining why you’re interested in this topic. Byproviding a bit of detail here, you’ll be better able to form useful research questions later.
