Every research design needs a framework that provides the support system on which to investigate your problem, purpose and research questions. Many dissertations will have multiple frameworks to provide the depth of analysis at the unique intersection of themes and concepts.
One way to determine which frameworks make the most sense is to create a Venn diagram of the ideas, people, and processes that are components of your research questions. Using this graphic organizer can help you focus on the most important concepts and then you can create a list of the possible frameworks that would support each concept. Be sure to recognize the decisions that you made along the way. You will want to be able to provide a discussion about the frameworks that you chose and the frameworks that you investigated but did not select through careful consideration. In Chapter 1, you will include a summary of the frameworks with the key elements that support your research problem, purpose and questions.
