1. What is the accepted explanation for the nursing shortage? Consider the following explanation: There is no “shortage” of nurses; there is a shortage of people willing to put up with the conditions nurses must work under. Do you agree? Why or why not?
2. Identify two health professions and explain the credentialing and regulation process for those professions.
3.There has been an undeniable shortage in the nursing sector throughout the complete nursing sector. The National Center for Biotechnology Information notes that there is a need for an estimated 3.9 million nurses in the United States and there is a need for an additional 1 million needed by 2020. Despite nursing being the profession with the highest number of jobs available, there are millions more needed to fulfill the demand. The typical cause is noted to be the aging population, often the amount of nurses aging out of the profession but statistically, that does not match up with the rate of growth in the healthcare industry or the number of baby boomers. Something else is happening. Cited causes are a lack of educators, high turnover, and inequitable distribution of the workforce. It is for these reasons that I agree, there is a shortage of people willing to put up with the condition’s nurses must work under. My husband and mother are both nurses. The conditions for the angels of healthcare are irresponsible and the administration should assume full accountability. In the clinical field, there is not enough retraining or ownership put on those that do not carry fulfill their duties, rather, the load shifts to stronger workers that are already strained with the most difficult and complex patients because of their strengths.
