Humanities Question
During the semester you are asked to visit human services agencies and learn about their programs. For each agency you visited, please provide a one-page write-up that follows the outline on your syllabus. You may also receive credit for completing a service-learning project or attending one of the preapproved Human Services events. The signed and completed forms must be submitted to the Service Learning Director in order to be credited for a Service Learning project. If you attended any of our road trips or on-campus events, please provide a written description of the event along with your overall impressions
I spoke with Dionne Fitzgerald, one of the social workers for DCPP (Department of Child Protection And Permanency).
Actually, she said schools usually reported cases of children being neglected and they do the follow-up with those children’s parents.
Usually, they go to these children’s doctor and require if they have been vaccinated, if they had had their physical and stuff like that. In case of neglect, mistreatment of a child, or if that child has nobody to take of him or her either death after being born or incarcerated parents, they will take the child away and provide for a new home, a new family, in a foster care.
She said that her agency is a federal agency and their money comes from the state so they do not worry about that. And they have an internship program, accept new faces. They will do a two years training for you, you will be on probation, just in case you fail the first one, after the second one, if you fail again they let you go.
