REVIEW CHAPTERS 3 & 4 FOR TOPIC IDEAS
YOUR TASK:
• Select a health or mental health problem, affecting middle or late adulthood individuals.
• Your assignment must include the following information with reference support:
o Identify the Health concern. This information should include the symptoms of the disease or disorder, the typical onset of the disease or disorder, the prevalence of the disease or disorder in our society, identifying any specific demographic group(s) affected more than others by the disease or disorder. (10 points)
o Identify the current Treatment available. This information should include treatment at all stages of the disease or disorder. For instance, what treatment is appropriate at the onset of the problem and as the disease or disorder progresses? Identify the outcome of the disease or disorder. Explain whether the disease or disorder is curable, chronic but manageable, progressively debilitating, or fatal (10 points)
o Identify possible Prevention methods. Is it possible for good health habits at early ages can prevent the disease or disorder? Is the disease or disorder genetically linked and if so what is the chance of transmission within a generation. What research is being done concerning the disease or disorder? Is a cure or prevention treatment possible in the foreseeable future?

• Find at least one professional article and two websites (educational or professional) that contain information about your chosen topic. Carefully review any website you select for consistency with your textbook and professional article. The majority of your information should come from your textbook and your article and must be referenced in APA style in your PowerPoint. The websites should be a source of additional information for the reader
consistent with the information in your PowerPoint and labeled as “helpful links” or “additional information”. Your goal is to provide a summary of information to a group or class using content consistent with accepted knowledge and research in the area.
• Create an easily readable eye-appealing POWERPOINT with references included. The textbook and the article should be referenced in APA style. The websites may be the links only. Your educational information must include citations identify what information came from which of your references (10 points).
• Your PowerPoint MUST BE ONLY 5 SLIDES long. A title page with your Topic and personal information (see PP examples). A page for each of the three sections of the project (i.e., Health Concern, Treatment Available, Prevention Methods with APA citations). The last slide (#5) should include your 4 references namely your textbook, professional article, and two websites in APA style.
• You may NOT use an APA software program to format your Power Point. You are encouraged to use the APA handouts and tutorial available for you in the Writing Assignment folder. You may also use the scoring rubric for the assignment while you are writing to ensure you have completed the assignment as requested.
• There are project examples available; you should look at these before creating your own PowerPoint. You must choose a topic that meets project specifications.
