Stereotypes by the Media

In an age where the media makes significant impact on people’s lives, it is critical that different sources of information observe the messages passed on the audience. Research indicates that the images portrayed and messages passed through different media platforms have the potential to create stereotypes on the audience in question, which in effect results to perceptions of the populations depicted on the images (Mastro 380). For instance, films with child-related themes have often included an obese child having minimal friends or challenges interacting with others in different contexts. Such a stereotype is likely to affect the audience of the films in question, in which case children in school environments would be highly likely to bully their classmates, whom they find to be of a higher weight than the rest of the classroom.
