  1. What is the history and development of this tool?

After Millon published his book, Modern Psychopathology, in 1969, he was urged to develop an instrument for use in measuring the dimensions of personality as highlighted in his book. As such, the Millon–Illinois Self-Report Inventory (MI-SRI) was developed in 1972. Subsequently, the items were refined, developed and later integrated into DSM-III in 1980 (Groth-Marnat, 2009). After this, the test was renamed Millon Clinical Multiaxial Inventory (MCMI). For Millon to develop the MCMI, he used a combination of both empirical and theory-based procedures. The MCMI-II was developed in 1987 whereby it maintained most of its features in the original test (Groth-Marnat, 2009). The development was enhanced by the need to incorporate additional theory and research of developmental disorders.
