The Chemistry of Fire

Fire is a product of a chemical reaction known as combustion. The combustion is a self-perpetuating and exothermic reaction, which occurs when matter in liquid, gas, or solid state undergoes rapid oxidation. Thus, fire emerges when combustible materials, such as fuel, combine with an oxidizing agent. However, certain temperatures are required to allow the occurrence of exothermic chemical reactions (Bell-Young, 2018). Moreover, additionally heat must be generated to sustain fire.
