Chapter 1

Define Communication and Interpersonal communication
Diagram the communication model.
Explain and give examples of the principles of interpersonal communication.
Define and illustrate the four essential interpersonal communication competencies

Chapter 2

Explain the role of culture in interpersonal communication.
Define enculturation, ethnic identity, and acculturation.
Define and illustrate four cultural principles for efficient communication and three for maintaining relationships.
Explain and give examples of the seven major ways in which cultures differ from one another.
Paraphrase eight principles of intercultural communication, and apply these in intercultural interactions.

Chapter 3

Define self-concept, self-awareness, and self-esteem.
Discuss suggestions for increasing self-awareness and self-esteem.
Define factors influencing interpersonal perception and apply suggestions for increasing perceptual accuracy.
Explain and give examples of the strategies of impression management, and use when appropriate and ethical.
