Black history is often a series of “great men,” and occasionally of “great women.” Does this do justice to the Black identity? Who was left out, and what effect does that have on Black America? Compare the experiences of Booker T. Washington, W.E.B. DuBois, Marcus Garvey and Ida B. Wells-Barnett with that of average Black men and women. Evaluate whether the life experiences of the “great” fairly represent the African-American experience of the beginning of the 20th Century.
