American versus Japanese Legislature
The American presence and control of Japan policies after the Second World War played a significant role in influencing the Japanese government structure. In particular, much of the Constitution of Japan had aspects akin to those in the American constitution, such as the bicameral nature of the countries’ legislature (Soichi, 2018). Notably, both the United States and Japan legislative assemblies have an upper and lower house, albeit with different names. Japan’s National Diet has the House of Councilors as the upper house and the House of Representatives as the lower house. On the other hand, the Senate is American Congress’ upper house, and House of Representatives serves as the lower house.
