How are your chosen agency’s community relations?

Your chief has asked you to develop one in-service training program for new officers in the department for the next year. The chief wants to focus on community relations and issues of race, gender, or culture. Whatever you recommend, the chief says it will be the basis for a new initiative for the department to reach out and build bridges with the community and neighborhoods.

Based on your assignments so far and the current state of police-community relations, what will you recommend to the chief? Please describe your choice of topic, any sub-topics, and how you would structure the class. Include any specific modules you would include and how long the training session would be. Explain your rationale for all of these decisions.

Considerations: if you are familiar or have identified an agency for your final project, do you have any concerns about the training and management of that public safety agency / organization? How are your chosen agency’s community relations? (Look ahead to the final project of the course.)
