develop a case study illustrating best practice application

In Part 1 of this assignment, you will develop a case study illustrating best practice application of an assessment/measurement instrument used for early childhood participants.

In preparation for evaluation of the instrument in Module 2, you will select and describe a child who will serve as a target participant and a single published instrument of assessment or measurement appropriate to young children, including the target participant. The instrument should be specifically intended for one developmental level and topic area (for example, toddler and cognitive development).

Then you will locate, summarize, and compare the major points of at least three professional journal articles published in the last five years related to the assessment/measurement instrument or facets of the instrument.

Course Objectives • Explain the purposes of observation and assessment for young children • Identify guidelines for developmentally appropriate observation and assessment for young children. • Determine the appropriateness of observation and assessment tools for a specific purpose and developmental level.

Directions: 1) Save and print the Module 1 Analysis PDF. 2) Create a 3-page paper in a Word or text document for your response. Use 12-point Arial or Times New Roman font. 3) Use APA (6th edition) format for the title page, references page, and in-text citations. Use the part titles as subheadings. 4) Develop an introduction and conclusion for the paper. 5) Part 1: Particpant and Instrument Selection • Select a child who will serve as the target participant in the case study. Refer to the child by initial rather than name; for example, R instead of Robert or Child 1. Develop a profile of the participant. Include the child’s demographic, personal/home, and educational information. • Select a single published instrument of assessment/measurement appropriate to young children, including the target participant. The instrument should be for specific age group and evelopmental levels, such as toddler and cognitive development. Relate the target participant and your choice of the assessment/measurement instrument.

Introduction

As a child develops since birth, there are specific developmental milestones at each stage of growth. It is essential therefore to carry out childhood assessments to understand the basic processes involved in child development including growth expectations and goals of a development program. The aim of carrying out a childhood assessment is to know the learning progress and benchmarks of children and also to find out if learning is carried out effectively. Assessment information is used for planning both individualized and whole-group instruction for determining the quality of a program and for communicating the correct program intervention. The process of childhood assessment encompasses various instruments of specific developmental levels (LeBuffe & Naglieri, 2019).
