Discussion 2 reponses

Guided Response: Review several of your colleagues’ posts and respond to at least two of your peers by 11:59 p.m. on Day 7 of the week. You are encouraged to post your required replies earlier in the week to promote more meaningful interactive discourse in this discussion.

Based on the supporting information from the resources, did you colleague create a convincing argument regarding whether personality shapes behavior or behavior shapes personality?
Even if you agree with your colleague’s statement(s), what evidence might you use to disprove his or her assertion(s)?
What other ethical consideration(s) should your colleague address regarding behavior analysis applications?
How would these and/or additional ethical considerations affect the treatment of mental health issues in standardized school settings?

Behavior analysts study behaviors that can be openly observed and measured. As researchers, they conduct studies that measure specific influences, such as the environment, on behavior, or look for new ways to solve behavior problems in people such as children or the elderly in a community.

Behavior analysts often work for government agencies, communities with community centers, schools or hospitals where they treat people who have mental health issues, particularly autism, brain injuries, and developmental disabilities. They might assist individuals in identifying their needs and or assisting in completing treatment plans to manage symptoms or behaviors. Behavior analysts also monitor the changes of patients under their care and work with family members and additional healthcare providers to determine long-term goals.

Behavior analysts must analyze the specific need of the individual being studied and provide one on one care. Those who have speech or hearing disabilities will require consideration for their specific needs. The daily living needs must be met in order to provide the care that each individual is entitled to by ethical code(APA,2018). In some cases, a general practitioner or specialist must also be contacted in treatment plans to ensure that all healthcare providers are on the same page. If the individual is in school, his or her teacher or special education counselor must also be made aware of the treatment plan. The school could teach living skills, and provide speech therapy if they have a certified individual who is able to provide the techniques of speech pathology.

In a school based setting, the child is also protected under their HIPAA rights which do not allow testing, mental health assessments, or other private information to be shared without the consent of the individual or guardian of the individual, if they are a minor.

For youths who also have mental health conditions, they can definitely benefit from better access to mental health services. The school or mental health clinic are the most efficient delivery system for these services. Studies show that students who participate in carefully constructed mental health programs have significantly less disciplinary issues, report improved mental health and can ultimately perform better in school (SAMHSA,2009).

Applied behavior analysis is a rapidly growing area of learning psychology. Based on the information in the required web page and article, describe what you think it would be like to be an applied behavior analyst is a school setting.
I used to work at a public school for 12 years and I believe the behavior analysis is organizational behavior management. You can assess your class room and make the necessary changes if you must as a teacher if you feel a student is not getting the lesson or have behavioral issue.

Analyze and describe how the APA’s Ethical principles of psychologists and code of conduct (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. might affect the implementation of behavior modification principles.
By having the code at the school will help the teacher and the principle keep the order and help the behavior in the school. The code is there for the safety for the student

Examine the behavioral analysis approach to personality psychology and discuss whether personality shapes behavior or behavior shapes personality. Use evidence from the resources to support your statements.
Much of the early research within the field of ABA was conducted within state mental hospitals using operant procedures such as token economies, reinforcement procedures, shaping, and extinction for persons with severe mental disorders such as schizophrenia (Ayllon & Azrin, 1965; Ayllon & Haughton, 1964; Ayllon & Michael, 1959). Over the last 50 years, behavior analysis has been successfully applied in mental institutions and community-based facilities to increase social, self-care, vocational, leisure, and recreational skills while concurrently reducing behavioral problems such as delusional speech, bizarre behavior, and aggression (Wong, 1996; Wong, Wilder, Schock, & Clay, 2004).

Evaluate the cultural implications of addressing and treating mental health issues in standardized school settings.
I think this would be a great benefit if all school had this program in their schools, to help student. Once we can identify the student with the behavioral issue diagnose the student correctly and give him/her the right treatment it can do wonders for their life.

Describe the benefits this type of approach might have for students.
This approach will give the student the confidence that he/she was lackey. I know why I wasn’t able to do what the other kids was doing or now I know I have to be taught a different way but I’m not slow or useless I can be somebody

The Article talks about a behavior analyst and their work in analyzing how factors such as the environment affect the behavior of a person. The article, however, does not adequately cover the specific topic in question that is how personality and behavior interact and which of the two affects the other.
