A 54 year old male came into the emergency room complaining of chest pain, feeling hot and sweaty, and shortness of breath. The nurse obtained a STAT EKG (sinus rhythm) and pulse oximetry (95% SPO2) immediately. The patient is visibly diaphoretic and has labored breathing. The nurse then obtained the patient’s vital signs (temp 97.9 oral, HR 97, RR 20, BP 112/65) and put the patient on a telemetry monitor (sinus rhythm). A rainbow of labs were drawn and patient was given nitroglycerin SL x 2 for chest pain, morphine 2mg IV for chest pain unrelieved by nitroglycerin, 2LNC oxygen for comfort, and aspirin 325mg for heart attack prevention. The nurse suspects an echocardiogram, chest CTA, cardiac markers, and possible stress test to be ordered.
