Evolution of Writing from Earliest Stages

In ancient times, it is believed that the art of writing was first developed in Mesopotamia, which later came to Egypt through trade. However, independent writing had been invented in Egypt by early 1300 BC, which Egyptians used to record their native language (Adams, 2017). Notably, the Egyptians recorded their language on sacred carvings known as Egyptian hieroglyphs. The reason as to why they recorded their language on the sacred carvings is because they believed that writing was invented by god Thoth basing their naming of hieroglyphs scripts ‘mdju netjer’ which meant words from God.
