(Part C continue)Discussion …Consider the following statement: “In preparing for the Cherokee removal, state and federal officials were motivated solely by desire to seize the natives’ land.” In your post, consider the following:

Does this statement present the full picture? Revise this statement to present a more complex explanation of the motivations that drove state and federal officials (and the white citizens of Georgia) during the years immediately preceding the Cherokee removal. Explain the choices you made in your revision.
Next, consider how you can take a similar approach to your own topic in order to more fully understand the historical complexity. What other viewpoints would you want to further explore in order to more fully understand your topic?

Post 1: This statement only presents a small picture, they were motivated by seizing the land but they were also motivated to remove the “savages” from the land that is needed for the white men to continue to grow and expand west of the Mississippi. A revised statement to me would be. “The Indian Removal Act being signed and in place allowed the officials to preform more uncivilized means to acquire the lands that they needed with out any consideration for the now civilized Native Americans.” This shows that their motives were selfish and unjust. The Natives made their own written language and even learned some trades from some white men. but they were still considered “Uncivilized” in Andrew Jacksons eyes. Ironically this is my topic and this is relatively close to what I have made for my research question and questions I have when researching the “Trail of Tears” or “Indian Removal Act 1830″

Post 2: I do not think the statement, ” In preparing for the Cherokee removal, state and federal officials were motivated solely by desire to seize the natives’ land.” completely sums up the events that occurred. While government officials only saw the Natives belonging as “land”, it was actually much more than that. These Natives had very little money and that land was really all they had. It was a meaning of pride and establishment. While the government saw it valued as one thing, Natives saw it as another. This in turn, can be used for my project because I can begin to look at the different perspectives of the JFK assassination. While I may start with JFK himself, Lee Harvey Oswald, Lyndon B Johnson and several other viewpoints may be used.
