– Jayson Blair and the New York Times.

– Jonah Lehrer and the New Yorker.

– “Surfin’ USA” and “Sweet Little Sixteen.”

Choose one of the above examples and answer the following:

– Describe the plagiarism that occurred.

– What are the ethical issues related to this plagiarism?

            Johan Lehrer self-plagiarism incident illustrate the ethical issues associating with dishonesty in the writing field. Lehrer, a rising start in the science writing field, was accused of engaging in self-plagiarism while working for the New Yorker. The first incident was noted when he reused language from a previous column he had written for the Wall Street Journal in an article for the new employer, the New Yorker. The emergence of plagiarism allegations led to bloggers analyzing his previous works and discovered 13 instances of self-plagiarism through language reuse. Much of the language reuse took place in the New Yorker (Bailey, 2012).
