Heisenberg

Heisenberg

Before and after Heisenberg’s uncertainty principle. Based on Heisenberg’s 1959 book, Physics and Philosophy, present a critical synopsis of the author’s own reflections on the significance of the discovery of the principle in the 1930s. (I will post a pdf of that book) You might or might not decide to offer a critical expansion of his perspective (more into the arts, for example), or a critical contraction of it, or neither one. You could refer to any other authors we have dealt with, or none of them, as you wish. I believe the last chapter of the book would be particularly useful (Ch. 11).

*DO NOT USE OUTSIDE SOURCES, USE ONLY THE SOURCES PROVIDED!*

– each essay must have a title that provides insight about your argument, as well as 12 pt font, page numbers, double-spacing and normal margins. The essay can be no longer than four pages, though it can be less than that.

-As it says in the course syllabus: “grading criteria will include the clarity and quality of all of the following: critical analysis, argument, use of evidence, insight, and writing.” Advice: demonstrate in your essay that you have carefully read and made use of the excerpts.
