A phobia is any given fear of something which is either irrational or exaggerated which is mostly defined by a specific trigger. a good example is the fear of storms which can be triggered by lightning (Beidel, Turner & American Psychological Association, 2007). Phobia is characterized by feeling uneasy or anxious which makes it an anxiety disorder. Over the years various psychologists have tried to explain the occurrence and causes of phobias and as a result, several theories have been formed. Sigmund Freud commonly referred to as the father of modern psychology came up with the psychoanalytic theory (Freud, 1977). According to Freud personality is divided into three parts the id, ego, and superego.
