The visit to the Thomas Hart Benton Home and Studio State Historic Site was a fascinating experience. The historic site is a state-owned property situated in Kansas, Missouri which preserves the studio and the house of Thomas Hart Benton, a Missouri artist who is remembered for his famous works. The house is preserved by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources after being established as a historic site in 1977. Having died in 10975, Thomas Hart Benton left the house as it was. His wife died eleven months later whereby their wishes to have the house preserved as a historic site was respected. Given the fact that the house was left as it was after their demise, it provides rich information regarding the artist’s personal life that serves to underline the genius that he was. Notably, the house is not as large as initially perceived, but its fortress-like appearance and the masonry used on its front gives it’s a unique appearance, one that can readily be associated with a historic site.
