HTM 480 Article Summary

No. Article Short Summary Takeaway Lesson
1. Are You a Leader or a Manager? Leaders are people who inspire people towards a certain vision while managers have people who do work for them. Leaders inspire people to action towards a certain vision while managers organize people who do work for them and they fill the gap between upper management and technical workers. As a direct result, one does not need to be a manager to lead people but is rather required to practice long term visions, develop their emotional intelligence to influence people, step out of their comfort zone by dedicating themselves to lifelong learning, and ask people for their input by making them feel they make a difference.

The main difference between a leader and a manager is that leaders attract a following who believe in their vision, while managers have people work for them without any intrinsic buy-in to a particular vision.
