The Silver Screen Revolution: American Cinema 1960–1980
Filmmaking is an art that involves the close relationship between the director’s thinking and the activities taking place during the period of making a film. This is a documentary on Hollywood traditions that occurred since the 1960’s and the changes that have taken place over the period. I find the interviews with the directors helpful when it comes to understanding the different aspects of American cinema for the two decades between 1960 and 1980. The different techniques used then were completely different to what filmmakers use today as technology has improved and more rules in the entertainment industry have also influenced the changes. As director Martin Scorsese describes it in the course of the film, the camera techniques, visuals and characters used were in connection to the social, political and economic conditions of the US at the time.
