Impact of social media on adolescents

Impact of social media on adolescents

  1. Introduction

Social media has transformed how people interact in the modern day digital world. Today, people can communicate with each other at anytime despite the geographical distance between them. Heavy reliance on virtual communication is having devastating effects on people’s interpersonal skills, particularly adolescents. Therefore, the research question intends would be the impact that social media has on adolescents’ interpersonal development.

  1. Rationale

As people embrace technology, it is important to understand how it transforms the society. People might end up celebrating technological advances that are regressing the society rather that developing it. For this reason, my research intends to ascertain whether social media is having positive or negative effects on the young members of our society, particularly adolescents.

  1. Background information on the topic

Most adolescents prefer interacting with people virtually rather than by meeting them physically. This behavior is making it difficult for them to learn the basic social and communication skills facilitated by face-to-face communications. Social media has enabled adolescents to interact more with others. However, the quality of the interactions has significantly declined since teenagers are not benefitting from them.

  1. Methodology

The study would entail a qualitative research since the study seeks to evaluate human behavior. The reason for using this method is that I will need flexibility to respond to the user data as it comes out during the study. With flexibility, I believe I would be in a position to collect as much data as possible.

  1. Sources

This study will rely on secondary sources due to the methodology it will use. The research will entail analysis of previous studies conducted on this topic, books, journals and newspaper articles. To ensure the findings are credible and valid, I intend to use peer-reviewed sources.

  1. Thesis readers

The study targets parents and educators as they have a crucial role to play in their children’s growth and development.
