Authorization and Authentication

Authorization and authentication are vital parts of access and identity management. Thus, they are often used in similar contexts, a condition that makes them easy to confuse them. However, the two concepts are different security mechanisms, which are used to help individuals and firms to secure their networks. For this reason, it is imperative that the users understand their differences to know how to utilize them effectively. Authentication refers to the process of confirming a person’s identity. On the other hand, authorization is the association of the identified persons with the permissions and rights to access a system (Chapman, 2012).
