The criminal justice system is an integral part of any society. It ensures that an ideal framework exists for deterrence and rehabilitation of individuals involved in any form of deviance that threatens the rights of the public. In particular, crimes against the state are considered criminal acts and individuals involved are often sentenced to serve some time in prison. This forms the first challenge that the criminal justice system will experience over the next five years. There have often been calls for a change in the criminal justice system to address the penal system, and potentially decongest American prisons. However, with no end in sight to the debate, this is bound to be one of the challenges that professionals in the criminal justice systems will continue to encounter.
