How was the earliest mammalian fossil found?

The earliest mammalian fossil was found in a rock on a beach in England. This rock was later carefully broken to reveal a tooth. The tooth was then analyzed scientifically and found to be of the earliest mammal.

Describe the fossil.

The fossil was of a tooth, which was so small in size that on further research showed it to be of an insect-eating mammal. The dating process of the fossil showed it to have existed about 160 million years ago.
